The Booty Patrol took a couple of days off in Italy (and then a couple of days off recovering from celebrating a life-changing socialist victory in France) and look what was posted while I had something more beautiful to look at than a computer screen! A video interview, in which Kevin Barnes gets to answer questions asked by fans (which makes a nice change from questions from journalists, since those are always the same), and another acoustic version of What Have They Done To My Song, this time on guitar. Rolling Stone Session and interview

While in New York a few weeks back, of Montreal stopped by the Rolling Stone studios for three (almost) acoustic renderings of tracks from Paralytic Stalks and an interview that mainly focuses on what to expect from the new live show.
The three songs come as stripped down as you could expect and the whole atmosphere is somewhat reminiscent of the Bandstand Busking session from 2008. Enjoy!

And since we're open to discussion and debate here (well, only if you agree with me, that is, democracy is overrated), what do you think of Athens Music Express's article on this one song? Was it marred by over-production? Or did it just become something so different you can't compare? And more importantly, how can one version of the song sound more "sincere" than the other? Does this even mean something? Aren't songs just good or not, incapable of being either sincere or deceitful? So many questions, so few answers...

Kevin solo show at Respectable Street (#2)

The Booty Patrol doesn't post about every single show (otherwise I'd call this my full time job, and I would be desperately looking for interns), but there are times when you can see a little magic cloud forming over a particular date, and that's exactly what happened after Kevin's solo set was rescheduled and moved to Respectable Street. Not that a solo show as the headlining act of some local outdoor festival sounded bad, but the move to a much more intimate setting definitely helped raise our expectations. Fortunately, the Booty Patrol has full-time correspondents in Florida (though they're more like ultra mobile correspondents), and they came back with beautiful pictures (thanks Gaelen!) and videos (thanks Michael!) to share, and lots of memories to cherish (they could share them with you too, if they were not so busy with things like life and a real job).

It is rumored that the whole show was filmed by a some bald dude who goes by the name of Gingerman, and that it will be posted somewhere at some point... I'll keep you posted, of course... I mean, look at this setlist!

of Montreal on NPR's World Cafe

of Montreal recorded a World Café session while in Philadelphia last month. The show will be broadcast tomorrow, but what with it being NPR, it has to be very complicated otherwise it's just not fun, right? So head over to their schedule and figure out for yourself on which local station and when you will get a chance to hear it. If you are not a US resident, head to XPN's website and work your way through the maze.
Otherwise you can subscribe to their podcast and *fingers crossed* get the show straight to your iTunes in a little while.

of Montreal featured in Rolling Stone

Coming up in this month's issue of Rolling Stone (American edition), an acoustic performance, including "Teenage Unicorn Fisting" that the band performed for RS's Smoking Section blog. The link appears to be inactive as of today, so I can't really say if there are several songs, if there's going to be a video, or just an audio stream... Actually, I can't tell you anything but : bookmark the page and check back regularly!
I'm getting the feeling that Teenage Unicorn Fisting is actually Like A Tourist (previously known as Wet Butcher's Fist, if I'm not mistaken) with a new fancy name.

EDIT : The video is now up. Like A Tourist it is. And nothing else. In that case, you have to wonder why they said it "included" this song. It IS this song. I hate Rolling Stone.

EDIT #2 : OK, so I was mistaken, "Wet Butcher's Fist" is actually "Coquet Coquet" and not "Like A Tourist / Teenage Unicorn Fisting." Thanks to Matthew for clearing that up.

of Montreal on Y-Rock, Alternate Site

I don't know about you, folks, but I'm getting tired of starting all my titles with "of Montreal" followed by blah blah... I really need to get more creative.
Anyway, tonight of Montreal (the whole band?) will be DJ-ing on WXPN 88.5 FM (which is apparently the NPR radio station of the University of Pennsylvania) and on YRockOnXPN.org. Apparently it'll be streaming/broadcast at 9p.m. and that is Eastern time. And it's obviously been recorded last week before the crazy Philadelphia show (you Philly kids out there are wicked insane!), since the website already tells you what they played.
Anyway, The Booty Patrol would love you to rip the audio and share it.

While in NYC, Kevin and Bryan stopped by the Alternate Site (whatever that is) and recorded two acoustic songs - Coquet Coquet and a cover of the Beatles' I'm So Tired.

Acoustic Session at WTMD

Bryan and Kevin stopped by Baltimore radio station WTMD's studios to record a 3-song acoustic set two weeks ago. The good news is that we have videos, and that they played two new songs... and since they're acoustic, you can revel in lyrics about unicorns eating baby meat, female erections and black light constellations.

Videos from Singapore

of Montreal's 4-week-long tour of Oceania and Asia is coming to an end, and the band has spent the last 3 days in Singapore, where they will play two shows tomorrow.
Yesterday they played a small acoustic set at the Esplanade Library and some of it has been committed to tape. And by that I mean SD card.

The first video is a (rather hilarious) improvised cover of a traditional Malay song with improbable lyrics, and the second is an acoustic version of The Party's Crashing Us, which, as far as I know is the first time they play it this way. And they somehow pull it off.

Thanks to Illuminated at the Townhall for sharing these with us. And thanks to new Townhaller Ikinai who captured these moments in the first place.

Bandstand Busking W/ of Montreal

An idea as good as the Takeaway Shows (where bands play strolling through Paris), this one from London: "Bandstand Busking". From the site:

"There are loads of bandstands in parks across London, and most of them are looking fairly tattered from lack of use. When did you last see/hear one surrounded by hordes excited by the sounds? ...well we hadn't so we decided to do what we could to change that, to fill the parks once more (at least for a wee while every couple of weeks) with some talented people capable of carrying a tune or two."

Kevin and BP on Minnesota Public Radio

Kevin and BP did an interview and acoustic & piano session for Minnesota Public Radio, and it is available for streaming at their site:

They perform "Trouble" (Lindsey Buckingham cover), "Feminine Effects," and "The Kids Are Alright" (The Who cover), and Kevin does say that "Feminine Effects" (prev. also known as "Something To Be Laughed At") will be appearing on the forthcoming of Montreal album, to be called "Skeletal Lamping", but no further details were given, although we are guessing it'll be an early 2008 release.

New acoustic EP! + Big Oil reissue

of Montreal have released a new four-track EP from an acoustic session they did earlier this year called the "Sony Connect Set". It features Kevin and B.P. playing two tracks from "Hissing Fauna" ( "Heimdalsgate Like a Promethean Curse" and "We Were Born the Mutants Again With Leafling") and two covers, Neil Young's "Harvest Moon" (which of Montreal have been playing on tour) and Love Is All's "Make Out, Fall Out, Make Up". You can get the new EP from Sony, although you do have to register for their new Connect Music Service. Pitchfork, which is streaming the Love Is All cover with this article, says it is / will be also available from Polyvinyl, but no listing as of yet there.
