"Sails Hermaphroditic" was premiered on April 27th at Toad's Place. If you were expecting a showcase of what's next for the band, you are going to be let down as it does not really seem like a step in a new direction, and probably would have felt right at home on False Priest. Enjoy!
I personnally would like to thank all the cool kids who came to say hi and shake hands last week and therefore proved that I was not keeping up this page in vain (because let me tell you that there are times when I really wonder if I'm not the only one who cares anymore). It was much appreciated. Also, the Booty Patrol is calling on all good souls who will be at the upcoming shows : if you can shoot me pictures of setlists or cool pictures or video, I would definitely appreciate it.
Stereogum just posted an interview with Kevin and a new track from Chuck Lightning's compilation album, "We Bumped Our Heads Against The Clouds" - available with this month's issue of The Believer. "Depraved Valet" was written by Roman GianArthur and features Kevin on vocals. It is a pretty slow and soulful number, quite in the same vein as "Hydra Fancies." I'm reposting the two interviews I twittered about yesterday : a really short one with Kevin via Tulsa World, and one in which Bryan discusses False Priest and band politics (for lack of a better phrase) at Kentucky.com. Please ignore the journalist's comments - he obviously hadn't done his homework prior to writing the article. On Read The Hook, Kevin gives us a few clues as to what False Priest is going to sound like : a less fragmented record you'll want to listen to on a high-end hi-fi system as opposed to your crappy laptop speakers. Also, Spin was in New Orleans to review the band's first show : less theatrical elements, more good old rock'n'roll. Good call on likening the new oM sound to Suede, it all wasn't just happening in my head, then.
When The Booty Patrol's special reporter in NYC sent me her report from of Montreal's Columbia University show last weekend, she did mention (among other things I'm sitting on right now) that she thought they had played a couple of new songs... How new? Coquet Coquet new, or really never heard of? Well, very very new apparently, as Matt (aka ThatKid, aka You Ain't No Picasso) just posted a video of an as-yet-unheard song, that he decided to call "Ghetto World" (his title, not Kevin's). Check it out (if only those Ivy Leaguers could have kept quiet for two fucking minutes - is that too much to ask?)!
If you are not following our Twitter or Facebook page, you may have missed out on yet another great Picasso move, since it's his picture which illustrates Rolling Stones article about "indie turning into hi-fi" or whatever (they obviously have never heard of, say, The Happy Mondays' "Yes Please!", which was, at the time it was released, indie rock's most expensive record - so expensive it led to the demise of Factory Records - but I'm getting sidetracked). In other random news, it has been confirmed that the band is making a guest appearance on Janelle Monae's upcoming album (The Archandroid, out May 18th - but you can pre-order it right now). Thanks to Elias at the Townhall for sharing.
Remember December 2007 when Kevin posted a few demos on myspace? Remember the excitement? Well, this is just about as exciting (but then again, maybe not)... on the one hand it's a video (kind of an improvement), but on the other hand it's just 1 minute of Kevin on the piano, so I'll let you be the judge of the appropriate level of excitement fans are supposed to show... Whether the song will actually be on False Priest/The Controller Sphere remains to be seen though. I know people who still mourn the loss of Georgie's Lament.
The 1:10 song can only be likened to Touched Something's Hollow - but that's got to be because as such, it is just a short piano ballad. Watch it below and subscribe to oM's youtube account, just in case...
I have to admit my heart went thumpety-thumpy-thump-thump when I got Matt's twit about the new of Montreal, but it turns out to be "Girl Named Hello" - as performed at Bonnaroo. Still, considering the pretty bad quality of the recording that was posted here (or should I say the really bad sound they had on that one day?), I'm sure some of you never got to the new song, or you just missed the Bonnaroo bootleg post because, well, you actually were at Bonnaroo, or you had better things to do on that one day like learning wolof, or figuring out how many times you can punch a wall before actually breaking a bone, or one of your beloved cacti had just passed away and you went into zombie mode for a couple of days... Don't sweat it, You Ain't No Picasso just posted the mp3. Head over there to seehear what you've been missing, and while you're at it, read (or read again), Matt's review (and take a look at his excellent pictures, too). Hats off to MozzaC for taping his third of Montreal show this year, and once again for sharing it with the rest of the world. Unfortunately, the band's set was marred by technical difficulties and poor sound quality, and the recording reflects that. You've been warned!! That being said, of Montreal premiered a new song, tentatively called "Girl Named Hello" (41 minutes into the set, if you want to jump straight to it), and even though you can't really hear half of the lyrics, or the keyboards at all, it gives you a very rough idea of what it may sound like on record. For a better sound, there's always nemi doonam's video - it is the same one that streamed on Sunday afternoon, so it's unfortunately not the full set, but the 40 first minutes, and it doesn't include the new song nor The Past Is A Grotesque Animal.

Now available on the downloads page, the three acoustic songs performed on WTMD, and two different live versions of "Coquet Coquet" and "Like A Tourist". Not the best audio quality I'm afraid, but for now it'll have to do.
Bryan and Kevin stopped by Baltimore radio station WTMD's studios to record a 3-song acoustic set two weeks ago. The good news is that we have videos, and that they played two new songs... and since they're acoustic, you can revel in lyrics about unicorns eating baby meat, female erections and black light constellations.
